The surveyor team

Accreditation Canada surveyors are a vital part of the accreditation program. They are senior health care professionals from accredited organizations in a variety of health and social services sectors.

As peer reviewers and champions of quality and safety, they conduct the on-site survey at the health care organization, assessing the quality of programs and services against the standards and sharing their expertise and providing guidance. These professionals bring invaluable experience, knowledge, and insight to health care organizations in Canada and internationally.

Accreditation Canada surveyors are:

  • Administrators
  • Diagnostic Imaging Technologists
  • Dieticians
  • Doctors, including specialists (e.g., surgeons, psychiatrists, neurologists)
  • Lab Technologists
  • Nurses
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Paramedics
  • Pharmacists
  • Physical Therapists
  • Psychologists
  • Respiratory Therapists
  • Social Workers and Counsellors

With a pool of more than 500 surveyors, we are able to tailor the survey team to the type of services the organization provides.

Surveyor Certification
To ensure we have the most highly trained, skilled team of peer reviewers in Canada, new surveyors participate in a rigorous orientation program. They then keep their skills and knowledge up to date through the Surveyor Certification Program, a training program we developed that has received an accreditation award from the International Society of Quality in Health Care (ISQua).

National Surveyor Conference
Every three years Accreditation Canada holds a National Surveyor Conference in Ottawa, Ontario. Hundreds of surveyors gather together to hear from health care leaders, share information and insights, and further develop their expertise.
