In 2004, Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) contracted Accreditation Canada to provide accreditation services for their 57 sites and National Headquarters. Accreditation was carried out using Accreditation Canada’s ambulatory, mental health, and acute care AIM (Achieving Improved Measurement) standards.

In 2008, bilingual health services standards under the AIM program were customized to meet the unique needs of CSC. They were developed in collaboration with Correctional Service of Canada and community health care and correctional professionals. These standards will be reviewed and integrated into the Qmentum accreditation process in the fall of 2009 and launched in 2010.

Earlier this year. the CSC embarked on the Qmentum program, beginning with the Qmentum Accreditation Primer. Surveys were conducted in the spring, using a health systems approach to multi-site accreditation that promotes consistency in care and services across each region and, ultimately, across CSC Health Services nationally.
