These standards are to be used by a stroke service in a regional setting that coordinates regional stroke services among a variety of sites (acute and rehabilitation), and reports to a Regional Health Authority. The standards can also be used by regional stroke services within a sub-region that is defined by a health boundary.
The standards are divided into the following sections:
• Investing in coordinated stroke services
• Integrating and coordinating stroke services
• Helping patients and families live with stroke
• Using information and information technology
• Monitoring quality and achieving positive outcomes
Accreditation Canada’s Standards for Comprehensive Services to People with Stroke were developed in collaboration with the Canadian Stroke Network and based on the Canadian Stroke Strategy's Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care (2008).
