    The Biomedical Laboratory Services Standards apply to all organizations with a biomedical laboratory that performs analyses and are to be used in conjunction with Accreditation Canada’s Laboratory and Blood Services Standards.

    The Biomedical Laboratory Services Standards are based largely on Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Standard Z15189-03 and the companion document “Plus 15189: The ISO 15189: 2003 Essentials” written by the CSA (2004).

    This standard section covers the following subsections:

    Properly preparing for the analysis (CSA Z15189-03 clause 5.4), including responding to requisitions and collecting, labelling, storing, and transporting samples;

    Conducting the analysis safely and accurately (CSA Z15189-03 clause 5.5), including performing the analysis, Point-of-Care (PoC) testing, and verifying the quality of the analytical procedures (CSA Z15189-03 clauses 5.6 and 5.7);

    Documenting and reporting timely, accurate, and confidential results (clause 5.8).
